Avoiding Information Overload

We live in times of information. It is very easy to access it, but also very hard to avoid it. Generally, it is great that there is an abundance of information, but there is also a risk of information overload. Bloggers have to be especially careful not to be buried in information that is not useful. This pertains to our articles, but also to your overall blog strategy. Here are some ways to avoid information overload:

• Make your posts simple and to the point. I like writing messages that are short, but contain some specific information. The longer posts you write, the harder it might be to make the whole posts informative and easy to read. What is the desired length of your posts depends on your niche, readers, and the information you want to present. That is why unfortunately I cannot exactly say what the ideal length of posts is.
• In case of a long article, make sure to present your main idea at the beginning and possibly at the end of your post. Keep it clear to the reader what you want to discuss. Your reader has to know at all times what the article he is reading is all about. If you have a personal blog this rule still applies to some extent, but it is not as important.
• Organizing your information in a visual way can be a great help as well. I like to use lists to get my points across. Some bloggers use graphs. Taking advantage of these forms of presentation can make your article a lot easier to read.

Like I mentioned before, this not only applies to your articles, but also to your overall blog strategy. You can try to avoid displaying any unnecessary information on your sidebar and on your about me page. You can also choose a template that displays everything in a clear way.
