What would you have done differently if you had to start your blog again? I think that it is a quite interesting question; and I am sure that each blogger would come up with a different answer. Nonetheless, I think that there are some common mistakes that a lot of new blogger make. I would like to list some of them in my post. I hope that this way future bloggers might be able to avoid them. Here they are:

-Caring more about the template than about the content. In case of blogs, the most important thing is content so make sure you put some work into writing your articles. While a template might be important, it is not nearly as important as quality content. The most important thing when it comes to your template is that it should allow your visitors to find articles very quickly.
-Writing too much about yourself. In case of personal blogs this may not be such a bad idea; however, most visitors are surfing the Web to find some useful information. If your blog is supposed to contain useful information, then try to focus on the topic of your blog.
-Having too high expectations. Building a successful blog takes time, so you should be patient. Having too high expectations might discourage you from blogging. Having realistic expectations is very important.

When do you write your blog posts? There is an interesting way to write posts for your blog. I am not going to discuss the style of writing, or even the length of posts, but rather how to plan writing your posts during the week. Usually bloggers write a post on their blog whenever they realize that they should post something, or whenever they see that they do not have enough posts this week or month. This can be quite difficult as often you have to write posts every day of the week, and since it takes some time to get started, a lot of time is wasted or not used very effectively. So anyway, the new idea for writing posts is as follows:

-You write all of your weekly posts on a chosen day of the week. The previous day you choose the topics for your posts. That is because choosing the topic for posts is very important, and you should have sufficient time for this.

There are a few reasons why I like the idea of writing posts this way. First of all, you are not in a hurry to select topics for posts and consequently you will probably choose more interesting topics. Secondly, you have other days of the week to work on different things that will give you time for other work related to your blog like marketing etc. Finally, writing a few posts in a row seems easier instead of writing them separately. That is because this way you are only focused on writing, and I believe that makes your work more efficient.

Most of them claim it was fun, as they had a chance to use a program before anyone else could. However, since products in the alpha and beta stage might be quite buggy, it is important to be aware of that, and do not have too high expectations.

-Participate in conversations on other blogs. Do not be afraid to leave comment, or to voice your opinions. Comment often on other blogs, especially if you have anything interesting to add to the discussion.
