Influence of TV in Our Lives

An average American watches TV more than 4 hours per day. In an average household TV is on around 7 hours per day. These statistics show that TV plays an important part in the lives of most people. It would be naive to say that TV has no influence on our lives. As a matter of fact, a person who watches TV a lot might perceive the world in a slightly different way. I am not going to say whether TV has a positive effect or not, but I would like to discuss a few points:

-Because the number of murders seen on TV by the time an average child finishes elementary school is around 10,000; it is clear to say that we are more used to watching violence than we were ever before.
-Many TV shows depict sexuality, but they also avoid discussing topics like teen pregnancy and it’s effects.
-According to a survey, over 90% of Americans believe that TV commercials aimed at children make them too materialistic. An average child watches around 20,000 commercials per year.
